On application of endorphin boosts
Here at Oly Float, I spend a lot of time talking about and reflecting upon floating’s effect on the central nervous system and related neurological processes. I often explain to new clients the process by which floating helps the brain naturally produce greater and greater expression of endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. When you give the central nervous system an opportunity to totally relax – by removing the burden of processing gravitational forces and sensory input – it’s remarkable how much the body can naturally adjust its own biochemical levels back into balance. Your body knows how to heal; it often just needs to be given the opportunity to.
We’re not here to diagnose or treat any medical conditions, but anybody who follows health news even remotely can see the pattern of just how many medical conditions have a deficiency of natural production of endorphins, serotonin or dopamine as their root. SSRIs – which treat depression by boosting serotonin production – are among the country’s most-prescribed drugs. Addiction – a condition more pervasive than we realize, when we think about all the different forms of addiction – is largely rooted in behaviors that boost dopamine production. And chronic pain disorders and inflammation could be thought of as, partly, a deficiency in production of endorphins, our natural pain killers and inflammation busters.
In this presentation, Canadian physician and author of “In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts“, Gabor Mate, M.D., discusses the nature of addiction and its relationship to neurotransmitters such as dopamine, which floatation therapy can help in creating a natural balance of.
We leave it to you to ponder how your production of endorphins, serotonin or dopamine may be affecting your life and health.
