Visceral Mobilization Massage
Visceral Mobilization – also known as Visceral Manipulation – is a massage technique that utilizes gentle pressure and massage to restore movement and mobility of the organs, or “viscera”, especially in the abdomen. Just like the connective tissues of the more obvious muscles and tendons in your body that typically get focus and care, the connective tissues of the organs also lose fluidity and full mobility and develop adhesions and stiffness. This can result in inferior function of the organs, which affects the whole body and any nervous system branches connected to that organ. The causes of their lack of mobility are many: inflammation, infections, blunt force injuries or sprains, dietary choices, scar tissue, posture, repetitive movement injuries, emotions …
The organs are meant to move! When your organs are stressed your whole system is stressed. There is a reason we refer to the parasympathetic nervous system state as “rest and digest”. When your organs can’t rest, neither can you. The vagus nerve, which connects the brain to the internal organs and regulates their function, is believed to report 80% to the brain and only 20% back. So if your organs are stressed, the vagus nerve will sending alerts to your brain that there is stress happening! Releasing the organs can help release posture, opening up the body from the inside, restoring movement and mobility, and helping create a deep sense of release and relaxation, both physically and emotionally.
